Has your dream always been to work for Disney? Or maybe you are a cruise lover? Disney Cruise Line is currently hiring nurses to provide medical care for guests and crew while sailing to incredible destinations! This is an exciting opportunity to combine your healthcare skills with a passion for adventure and all things Mickey.

Job Overview

As a Disney Cruise Ship Nurse, you’ll be responsible for providing inpatient, outpatient, and emergency care on board. Your duties will include:

  • Responding to medical emergencies and providing critical care

  • Conducting health screenings and routine medical services

  • Assisting with onboard health education and wellness programs

  • Collaborating with ship physicians and medical teams

This role requires the ability to handle a wide range of medical situations, from minor illnesses to urgent emergencies, all while working in a fast-paced, unique environment.

Qualifications Disney is Looking For

To be eligible for this role, you should have:

  1. A nursing degree and active nursing license from an STCW country. STCW Convention is an international agreement that sets standards for training, certification, and watchkeeping for seafarers. The US is an STCW country.

  2. At least three years of recent professional experience in emergency medicine, trauma, or critical care.

  3. Valid BLS and ACLS certifications. Having PALS will help you stand out, since this type of cruise line is geared towards families.

  4. Experience with electronic health records and digital literacy.

Cruise ship specific qualifications:

These qualifications are specific to working on an international cruise ship, not just Disney:

  1. C1/D seaman visa. Don’t stress over this one! Disney will supply you with the paperwork to apply.

  2. A valid passport.

  3. Bring work-approved shoes. Sorry, it was so odd and specific I couldn’t resist including that one!

Perks of the Job

Working as a Disney Cruise Nurse comes with fantastic benefits, including:

  • Competitive salary- A Google search showed a salary that may be a little lower than average for nurses. However, since you won’t have to pay for food and rent, you might come out ahead.

  • Free travel to amazing destinations

  • Room and board included

  • Comprehensive medical coverage

  • Retirement savings options

  • Becoming part of the magical Disney family!

If you’ve ever dreamed of sailing the seas while making a difference, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Some Questions to Consider if You Get an Interview

This is a shipboard job- meaning you will live aboard ship during your contract. Quarters are usually tight on ships, and you may be sharing a room with someone else; that is definitely a question for your interview.

There is a very strict drug and alcohol policy.  If you have any prescriptions (such as medical marijuana) or questions about social drinking, it’s a good idea to ask for clarification during your interview.

Next, ask how long a contract is- it’s not mentioned in the job post. How do vacations and family emergencies work while you are at sea?

I would also want to know more about internet access while at sea- guests frequently get charged for WiFi, do employees also have to pay?

Many cruise lines offer employee discounts for family members to sail. Ask if Disney offers the same!
