Hello Fellow Healthcare Professionals!

Published June 30, 2024

Thank you for stopping by!

I’m assuming you found my page because you work in patient care, and are completely burnt out, especially after Covid times. Now you want to do something else, but aren’t even sure where to turn. I’m here to help! Let me tell you a little about me, my background, and how I managed to find a job that used my knowledge gained from patient care, but without taking care of patients.

My name is Fran, and I’ve been a registered nurse for over 25 years. I started my career in the military, working in med/surg and the emergency department. The hours were long, the shifts were rough, and I quickly realized that hospital life wasn’t for me.

After leaving active duty, I moved into outpatient care and eventually spent more than a decade in oncology. I loved my patients and the work itself, but it was also emotionally heavy. You spend so much time with people during some of the hardest parts of their lives, and when you lose them, it hurts. Over time, that kind of loss just adds up. I knew I couldn’t keep doing it forever, but like a lot of nurses, I felt stuck.

Then, while working in a small infusion clinic, I met a few pharmaceutical reps who mentioned that some of their companies hired nurses for education and training roles. That stopped me in my tracks. I had no idea jobs like that even existed.

In nursing school, they tell you there are endless options with a nursing degree—but what they usually mean is there are endless hospital departments, not completely different career paths. It took a few years of trying, refining my resume, and getting turned down before I finally landed a job as a nurse educator for a medical device company.

I haven’t looked back since. There are so many opportunities out there for nurses that no one talks about, and I started this blog to help other healthcare professionals find them.

So that’s my goal with this blog. I want to talk about different roles that are available to all health care workers. I plan on spotlighting jobs that I see posted so that you can find them too. I am going to interview people who have roles outside of the patient care or hospital setting. I even plan to speak to people with health care backgrounds who have jobs or side hustles completely unrelated to healthcare.

If you have other topics you would like to hear about from me, please drop a comment.

If you or someone you know has a cool job or side hustle outside of patient care and would like to share your journey, please email me!

I look forward to hearing from you!
